Spirit of Tuscarora Trail

This trail at Tuscarora State Park is our favorite trail of all time.  We have hiked here hundreds of times and it’s simply the best.  There’s a variety of terrain here including a rhododendron thicket and a wetland meadow.  As well as seasonal wildflowers and even freshwater mussels.  Last year we met the gentleman who created the trail.

The trail is about 5 miles long and it was 68°F on this day.  It was an awesome day for a hike.

Hubby took this neat photo.

It’s so much fun walking through the rhododendron thickets and tunnels.

Here’s one of the vernal pools.

The trail is named after this “Spirit Tree.”  Someone on Instagram commented that it looks like an Ent from Lord Of The Rings.  I have to agree. : )

Hello forest friend.

The eastern hemlocks are impressive here.

We are so thankful for this trail.
