This morning, hubby helped me finish preparing the veggie garden for planting. I had already cleaned up leaves and the old weed barrier. I’m looking forward to plating around May 15th, which is planting time for zone 6b. I also hung up the hummingbird feeders. We were on hummingbird watch today and they arrived right on schedule. I have learned over the years to tell exactly when they will come. Sometime after April 25th and the first super nice spring day!
Later on, I sat outside on my deck enjoying the warm afternoon and listening to bird songs. I had the camera with me to take photos. The catbirds, wood thrushes, towhees, and brown thrashers showed up recently as well. The dawn chorus at 5am is amazing right now.
We have a grey squirrel that is more like a flying squirrel. Somehow he manages to jump onto the feeder from a nearby tree, even though hubby has moved the feeder and trimmed the branches. While I was sitting on the deck, I saw this squirrel climb up another tree and kept peeking around at me from the other side of the tree. Then our friend took a nap on the bat house, tired from waiting for me to go back inside…
At one point, I heard rustling in the leaves to the one side of the deck. I went over to see it was a baby snapping turtle. Last year, I found two baby box turtles by the swing. Cute overload, that is all I can say!
Thanks for stopping by for a read and I hope you have a pleasant week!
