Helping Turtles

Turtles often travel across busy roads to find a spot to lay their eggs.  It’s important to move them to the other side of the road in the direction they were heading.  Snapping turtles shouldn’t be picked up and can be gently nudged along.  If a turtle is injured and still alive, they should be taken to a wildlife rescue center for help.

When we were at the fair last year, we met a local wildlife rehabilitator.  She had a hawk, vulture, owl, and turtles that we got to see up close and learn more about.  We learned that it’s important not to move turtles too far from where they are found.  They can become confused trying to find their territory then become lost.
